During the second year of life, a child begins to move away from their caregiver and explore the world around them by walking, climbing, and playing with toys. The child can play simple games such as “Put the block in the box,” and “Where’s your nose.” The child plays by his/herself but will use other children in their play (ex: crawling over them and trying to get the toys with which they wish to play). At this age the child will begin to cry if he or she cannot reach or have a toy. “No” is a common word for the child at this age.
