The “Annual Distinguished Graduate Celebration Gala” has been the signature fundraising event for The School Foundation since 2002. The event recognizes and pays tribute to alumni of Florence School District One that have gone on and achieved extraordinary success in their lives. The list of honorees includes Pro Football Hall of Famer and businessman Harry Carson, Nickelodeon Executive Marva Smalls, Former South Carolina First Lady Tunky Riley, Retired SC Supreme Court Justice David Harwell and Florence education icon and retired principal of Wilson High School - Allie Brooks. On September 20, 2007 The School Foundation honored Ed Young, former U.S. Congressman and prominent citizen of Florence. The Gala has drawn speakers of state and national acclaim to help celebrate the accomplishments of the distinguished graduates.
The Galas are so popular that they can only be held in the Florence Civic Center’s Sports Arena. Last year’s event hosted nearly 1,000 guests. Each year the gala entertainment – provided by students from Florence School District One - is designed around a different theme – thus guaranteeing that it will be fresh and exciting each year!
