The School Foundation holds first Council of Parent Leaders meeting.

The first Council of Parent Leaders meeting of the school year was held on Nov. 10th at Carver Elementary.  Delmae grant recipients Ginger Baggette, Roy Ann Jolley, Melissa Marsik  and Genevieve Boston presented a program highlighting  Smart Response Systems and data driven instruction.  Council members present included several of the FSD1 Board of Trustees, FSD1 administrators and teachers, parent leaders and members of The School Foundation staff and Board of Directors.  The presentation included a hands on demonstration in which council members were given “clickers” and answered test questions.   The presenters then demonstrated how educators are using the data to get immediate feedback on student achievement.  Other key features of the system include:  increased student engagement, instant feedback for students as well as teachers, providing differentiated instruction, offering cross-curricular connections and collaboration among teachers, schools and the district.

Math Masters of the Pee Dee is a program that will change classrooms into data driven zones of learning where student achievement is the ultimate goal. The council was formed by The School Foundation for the purpose of creating a communication and development structure for parent leaders within the district.

Please contact The School Foundation if you would like more information on the council.

- Distinguished Graduates

Over the years, many graduates of Florence public schools have dreamed big dreams and have been able to make their dreams come true.  Each year, one extraordinary graduate is presented the award of the Distinguished Graduate of the Year at the Celebration Gala.  We are proud of these successful individuals who serve as role models for the students of today.  The ongoing support from individuals, corporations and members of the education community demonstrates the respect that this community has for these individuals; and also helps to prepare the leaders of tomorrow to reach their own lofty goals.
